What's Happening

Dear HCMS Student,

I hope you have had a good start to your school year. The staff and I are so happy to be working with you again. I am writing to remind you that learning does not stop when you are not in the building.  School day times, 7:40 am to 2:40 pm, and you should still be dedicated to learning when you are not present at school. This is especially true this year, as you are spending part or all of your time learning virtually.   I wanted to send this email so that you have a clear understanding of the expectations for learning this year.

Team H and Team C Hybrid students should be doing the following each of their VIRTUAL days of school:

  • Check their HCMS Outlook email accounts – morning and afternoon (click on Outlook Email under Quick  Links on the middle school web page)
  • Log onto their Google classrooms to check for assignments or lessons
  • Check to make sure all assignments are complete
  • Respond to communications (emails, texts, classroom posts) from teachers

Optional Support

  • Join a virtual intervention meeting for discussion or help

Additionally, Team H and Team C students have the opportunity on Wednesdays to:

  • Meet or communicate with their teachers (all hybrid teachers have dedicated office hours)
  • Join a virtual intervention meetings for discussion or help

100% virtual students are expected to do the following Each School Day:

Teacher work days are from 7:20 am to 3:05 pm. Virtual assignments can be submitted at any time within assigned deadlines, but please realize teacher availability and responses should not be expected outside the scheduled work day. Please allow time for a response/feedback from the teacher during the scheduled work day as well, hybrid teachers are with in-person students on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Virtual teachers are teaching multiple subject and/or grade levels and teach several virtual classes.

Teaching and learning has never been more challenging than during this time.  We appreciate the efforts you are making, and will continuously assess our teaching to improve and support you.

Have a great day,

Mrs. Thayer
